Could someone buy the designs from Bally / Williams for their pinball machines?
Nothing beat machines like "Tales From The Black Lagoon" , "Adams Family" , "Monsterbash" , "Twighlight Zone", Tales From The Arabian Nights", Cirqus Voltaire , Theatre of Magic , and the list goes on and on and on !!!! I'm really gonna miss the silver ball.
Bally's pinball division was sold to Williams in 1988. In 1999, Williams got out of the pinball business altogether. Stern has been the only serious pinball manufacturer since.
Williams sold off their pinball business in pieces, making it tricky for anyone else to start making their old machines again. Illinois Pin Ball has much of the physical assets -- manufacturing equipment, etc.; and The Pinball Factory (an Australia company) has most of the designs and the rights to build them. Both companies have done a lot of *talking* about making pinball machines for a few years now, but very little *action* has occurred. Illinois Pin Ball did make a bunch of "Big Bang Bar" machines in 2006 & 2007 -- a re-make of a Capcom machine that had existed only in the form of prototype machines in 1996 (Capcom quit the pinball business before the machine was put into production). But that's it, as far as actual machines from either of those companies.
