Can anyone help me calm my iguana down again?
I have had a 4 year old iguana for about 3-4 months (from all accounts his previous oqner was a good one) and after a bit of time an effort he was starting to feel really comfortable with me even coming to me to be pet and picked up. Last week though this all changed I bought a bearded dragon and to make sure my iguana didn't get jealous i started to pet him more than before and the first day or two he loved it then one day I must have annoyed him and he tried to bite me so disaplined him by pinning him down for about 10-15 secs (I read it was a good way to disaplne an iguana on a web page) but ever since then he is so frightened of me, he goes nuts if i try to pick him up of the floot like a pinball bouncing off the walls and his cage untill he eventuly gets stuck and I can pick him up and he become scarred stiff. I know i've messed up but I don't know what to do to fix things
I rescue iguanas in FL who have been abused, fed wrong, wild caught, etc. Just because he was nice at first doesn't mean that he is going to be nice forever. Especially with iguanas I have had iguanas for 8 yrs now and for no reason sometimes they will just turn on you and bite or scratch you. Mainly males will do this because they want to breed and it is the summer so they are in breeding mode. For one thing he is probably scared right now from when you pinned him down, you can't pin or punish an iguana because they will become aggressive to try and defend themselves and no matter what people say they do remember what you do cause I have one iguana that hates me just cause I accidentally push a chair into his cage and made him fall if I move a chair around the house he flips out. Also with the new addition of the bearded dragon in the house I would try leaving him alone for a couple of days and then let him calm down and gradually start holding him more just make sure to give them both equal attention and to wash your hands so the dont smell eachother. I t could take sometime to calm him down again but remember iguanas especially male iguanas are not the nicest lizards in the world they can be unpredictable at times.
