Are 1970's pinball machines difficult to be repaired?
We are looking at a Williams," Stardust" pinball machine 1971 and have heard that when it has problems or breaks down that it will be almost impossible to repair or to find someone to repair it. Please help as the pinball machine was to be a christmas present to my 3 teenage kids! Thanks so much.....
If the machine is working well NOW, then it shouldn't be difficult to keep it running later. A pinball machine from the early 1970s will be easy to find parts for, with the exception of parts that were specifically made for that model.
In other words, the backglass, the playfield plastics, and the playfield itself, are the only parts you're likely to have difficulty replacing. Flippers, coils, lights, relays, scoring drums, rubber rings, etc. -- not a problem. And depending on where you live, if it's anywhere near a major city, you should be able to find people willing to work on it if necessary.
