Pinball Slingshot
How do pinball slingshots (the triangley things that kick the ball away) work?
Ball hits rubber ring around slingshot.
Deflecting rubber ring pushes against leaf switch.
Leaf switch closes, completing electrical circuit to solenoid (electromagnetic coil) mounted to the underside of the playfield. Also the machine adds some points to your score.
Solenoid pulls metal rod through the center of the coil at high speed.
Metal rod is attached to lever inside of slingshot.
Lever kicks, hard, against rubber ring.
Rubber ring deflects outward.
Ball bounces away, leaf switch opens, electrical circuit to solenoid shuts off, kicker returns to rest state.
