The smell was of lysol, gym socks, and rubber
The lights dimmed every once in a while,
showing off the florescent walls
There was an occasional yell in response to a score
Kids scurried along the ground, past the lanes,
To the pinball machine, where they inserted quarter
after quarter
after quarter
Balls were rolled
Pins were knocked down
There was score
after score
after score
With the occasional strike
"Um... excuse me miss...?"
Ah, finally something to do
"Yes?"
"The ball... it's stuck..."
Ah, yes, of course; stuck in the gutter
"Be right there"
I shuffled down the lane,
Ready to roll it towards the pins
"Um... miss... could you perhaps roll it this way?"
Ah, yes, of course; how could I forget?
"Nobody wants a gutter ball."
