why does our internet drop out when my dads machine is on?

We have "be" internet, which is dodgy serive anyway, but when my dad turns on his machine the internet always cuts out after awhile, this can then be fixed by logging on to our netgear router and clicking connection status and then releasing and renewing, this fixes it until next time. When my dads machine was off for a whole week we didn't loose the internet once. Does his machine have a virus?

This can only be caused if your Dad's Computer is configured with a static IP on the computer, but not reserved on the Netgear router you have.
Eg:
When you turn on your computer 1st, the computer gets an IP of 192.168.0.2 and it allows your Internet, however if your Dad's computer also has a hard coded IP of 192.168.0.2, it results in an IP conflict resulting in the loss of Internet.

Try to turn on your Dad's computer 1st and then your other computer and you would not face this issue.

The resolution to this is to configure your Dad's computer on DHCP.
