Tiger Barb Care in a 60L/18G aquarium?
i would like to know EVERYTHING from temperature, feeding habits, what foods, how big they get, how and when to breed them, how long to cycle tank before entry of fish, how many to put in the tank, what to feed to the fry, plants; plastic or real , territorial? how to sex them, their habits in a strictly tiger barb tank
ther will only be TB in the tank
- 18-gallons is a bit small for Tiger Barbs. If you choose to keep them, they should be the only fish in that tank.
- Cycling takes several weeks at least. It is always best to perform a fishless cycle. The easiest and most affective way is with pure ammonia, which you can find at most hardware stores. It absolutely must be pure, no additives, perfumes, dyes, etc.
- Male Tiger Barbs are generally more brightly colored.
- Tiger Barbs need to be kept in groups of 6 or more. In 18-gallons, I would not suggest more than 6.
- Live plants are always best for your fish and aquarium health. Choose easy to grow, low light, (Unless you're investing in super lighting/CO2 and the like,) plants such as Anubias, Java Fern, Java Moss, and Amazon Swords. If you decide on artificial plants, I'd suggest silk over plastic, as they have a more natural look, and won't tear fins.
- Tiger Barbs are semi-aggressive fish, and will quarrel amongst each other. If kept in properly sized groups, and given enough room, their quarrels will not result in injury.
- Tiger Barbs are not especially hard to breed. However, they will need a separate breeding tank of at least 25-gallons, fully cycled. Otherwise, the eggs will likely be eaten before you know they're there, and if they aren't, the fry certainly will be.

Edit:
Hold on a sec. 60 liters is 15-gallons, not 18. Which do you have? I would not suggest Tiger Barbs in a 15-gallon at all. If that's what you have, use that as a breeding tank, and look into getting a 30-gallon for your Barbs. (Look on craigslist or the like, they go for nothing.)
