so I lied about my car accident. what should I do?
Got into a car accident tonight. I went over a 1 1/2 foot puddle and lost control and drove into a tree. It looks like just my bumper is damage, radiator cap doesn't look blown. Frame kind of does look bent but it was also bent in my previous accident. And my previous accident was much worse.
Anyway, I lied to my insurance and the police and said a car turning into my lane forced me into the other lane. When really, a car was slowing down to make a turn and I was passing him. I said I didn't get a look at the license plate. I told the police it was just a maroon SUV.
You don't have to tell me how much I ****ed up here. I just need to know what I should do if the truth is discovered. How screwed will I be if it is discovered? Will my license get suspended and will I lose my insurance?
I should tell you that the car is in my moms name. I'm added to the insurance. Right now they are looking at it as a hit and run.
Well honestly, I don't see how they would. But from the looks of how nervous you're getting, it seems like they might get the information from you...
Well worst case, you may get charged for obstructing an investigation. Not to mention if the insurance pays out and the truth "comes out", the insurance company may file charges of fraud against you. That's also a criminal and financial act. They WILL adjust your credit report accordingly and sue. Plus that's another charge to what you have already...
